Our History

The Missouri chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® serves all 115 counties in Missouri and 6 Kansas counties that are a part of metro Kansas City (Franklin, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami, and Wyandotte). The first wish in our area was granted in 1983, and since then more than 3,400 wishes have been granted throughout our Chapter.

The headquarters for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri is located in St. Louis, Missouri.  There are program centers in St. Louis, Springfield and Kansas City.

Experiencing tremendous growth and with an office bursting at the seams, the Make-A-Wish Board of Directors determined the need to move its headquarters to a new location. McCarthy Building Companies fulfilled this wish by renovating a building on their grounds and offering a free long-term lease. Our headquarters relocated in the spring of 2001. Thanks to the incredible generosity of McCarthy, we now enjoy our own incredible Wish Home.
